The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, held in Vladivostok between the 2nd and 9th of September, appears as an opportunity for change for Russia.

After 21 billion dollars invested and more than 500 entrepreneurs gathered, the summit will focus on the Russian 2012 APEC presidency’s priorities.

Among those priorities, the country has highlighted liberalization of trade and investment, regional economic integration, strengthening food security, forming reliable transport and logistics systems and cooperation in attaining innovation growth goals.

“I believe we need to prepare for privatization of land sites” declared Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev.

Land property has been under discussion for many years. Some experts defend privatization, while others allege land is a generational wealth that can not be sold. “But what do we have as a result? We frequently see the degradation of the land stock and the absence of real possibilities for construction, including housing and social infrastructure. That is why we need after all to make these decisions” Medvedev responds to that point of view. The Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, supports Kyrgyztan’s intention of joining the Customs Union formed by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

 “We have filed an application to join the Customs Union and a group of experts is currently at work. The path has been chosen and it is only a matter of time” said Omurbek Babanov, Kyrgyz President. This will is shared by Mevdedev: “Russia’s invariable position is that Kyrgyzstan should become a member of the Customs Union”.

This first step has to be followed by an integration process and the signing of several treaties due to Kyrgyzstan’s access to Customer Union.

This could lead to the inclusion of a new member in the project launched in November ...

Russia's TNK-BP, developing a gas project in Vietnam acquired from its major shareholder BP, has also bid for ConocoPhillips assets in the Asian country, TNK-BP's head of upstream operations Alexander Dodds said last week.

TNK-BP, a 50-50 joint venture between BP and a quartet of Soviet-born businessmen, has already taken over some gas assets in the South China Sea from its British co-owner and expressed its interest in expanding in Vietnam. It has said it will bid for one block of nine blocks on offer by the Vietnamese government in a tender which opens this week.
