Carlyle buys the largest Brazilian toy store chain

The Carlyle group, one of the largest venture capital companies in the world, has announced in Brazil the acquisition of the 85% of Ri Happy’s shares, the largest toy store chain in the country.Carlyle has not announced the price of the acquisition of the shares.

Ri Happy was founded in 1988 by Ricardo Sayon and Roberto Saba and it has become the largest toy story chain in Brazil thanks to alliances with national and international manufacturers and supplying a wide range of inexpensive products. The company counts with 114 placements in 18 different Brazilian states and 2.300 employees in their staff. From now on, Héctor Núñez, head of Wal-Mart Brazil between 2006 and 2010 will be the Chief Executive Officer of the company.

Carlyle administers 148.000 million dollars in corporative and real estate investments and investment funds. They have 33 offices spread around the world and half a thousand employees. Since 1987 they have invested 48.000 million dollars in 414 different companies. In Spain, Carlyle’s office is placed in Barcelona and they own Applus+ and the touristic company Orizonia y Arsyss, the internet domain recorder. They also bought last year the Asturian telecommunications operator Telecable
