Cosan, founded in 1936 and headquartered in Sao Paulo, is a Brazilian conglomerate producer of bioethanol, sugar and energy.Cosan sugar mills produce 5% of the sugar consumed worldwide and 4% of the ethanol. Cosan owns 23 plants occupying 600,000 hectares and emplying 45.000 people.Cosan has also recently formed a joint venture with Royal Dutch Shell for the distribution of fuels and bioenergy in Brazil.
